This lesson surveys the narrative of the plagues and the subsequent departure of Israel from Egypt. (Exodus 7:8 - 14:31) God is not only a promise giver, he is a promise keeper. He keeps the covenant He has made with His people. There is a tension which exists between God's agenda and man's. At issue here is not only Pharaoh's desire to keep Israel under his control....but the greater theme is God's determination to keep His covenant. God's covenant will be kept no matter what. Pharaoh's hard heart is no match for the covenant keeper Yahweh. Embedded in this narrative is tragedy and triumph, rescue and redemption.
